Tokyo subway incidentCountering the Proliferation of WMD
Weapons of Mass Destruction pose a serious threat to the world and DGI is a key member of the Department of Defense’s effort to counter the proliferation of WMD. At least 25 countries—some of them hostile to the United States—already have or may be developing nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons, or their missile delivery systems. Others are heavily engaged in the sale or transfer of NBC technology. Chemical and/or biological weapons were used in Iran-Iraq war and, as the 1995 Tokyo subway incident shows, terrorist attacks using chemical or biological agents have become a reality.

Counterproliferation Program sealThe Department of Defense is working aggressively to enhance the detection, protection, and response capability for WMD. In this regard, DGI has been the primary contractor supporting the DoD Counterproliferation Program Review Committee (CPRC) and has prepared and coordinated six annual Reports to Congress on its work. With strong technical expertise and long experience in counterproliferation, DGI also has become instrumental in similar work for the Department of Homeland Security.
